About Serbian School

The Serbian Sunday School in London, Ontario aims to offer various educational programs for children and teens to preserve the Serbian language, religion and culture. After several years of discontinuity, the school has been renewed in 2023, and began once again its educational work.

The school bears the name of Saint-Sava, the saint who preached people’s goodwill, wisdom and modesty, leaving us with the pledge and commitment to nurture faith and education. That is why learning and promoting the Serbian language as a native language (mother tongue), developing and raising awareness of Serbian national, cultural and religious identity, as well as the development of the Serbian community, are the primary goals for our school.

Through the grace of God and the dedication of kind-hearted individuals, we have successfully organized the commencement of our Serbian school. Today marks the beginning of this endeavor, ushering in a delightful new chapter for the children in our parish. May God bless us with peace, harmony, and love as we strive to achieve our goals. Your prayers are greatly appreciated. Our Serbian Sunday School takes place every Sunday following the Divine Liturgy at 12 noon.

Religious Education

The religious education program occurs following the Divine Liturgy, with children grouped according to their ages.

The primary goal of our Sunday school is to acquaint children with the fundamental tenets of the Orthodox faith and the Christian way of life. Lessons entail discussions on Christian virtues, exploration of Bible narratives and the lives of saints, as well as instruction in prayers and customs associated with Christian holidays.

While Sunday school plays a vital role, Christian upbringing predominantly rests with parents. They can enhance its effectiveness by discussing Sunday school teachings with their children, regularly attending church services and partaking in Holy Communion, and leading by example in their daily lives.

Serbian Language Classes

The objective of this initiative is to uphold the linguistic heritage of the Serbian community in London, Ontario. Designed for children and youth interested in learning Serbian language skills or Cyrillic.

Participants will not only acquire proficiency in Cyrillic and deepen their knowledge of the Serbian language but also cultivate a stronger sense of national and cultural identity through interaction with their peers and the preservation of ancestral traditions.

I give my permission for my son/daughter to participate in the Serbian School St. Sava (part of SCO St. Sava) learning programs. I am aware that there are risks associated with participation in the school including the risk of injury, and I consent to my child’s participation despite such risks. I acknowledge that I will not seek to have the Serbian School and CSO St. Sava or its teachers and volunteers held liable in the event that any accident, injury, loss of property or any other circumstance or incident occurs during or as a result of my son’s/daughter’s participation in this program. This release of liability includes accident, injury, loss, or damages to the student, as well as, to other individuals or property which may result from the student’s participation in this program. I hereby release and agree to hold harmless CSO St. Sava, its board members, officials, volunteers, and employees, from any claims arising out of my son’s/daughter’s participation in this program. I have read and understand and accept all of the statements above and accept full responsibility as described. I understand that my child’s participation in the activity is a privilege, and that rules of acceptable behavior apply. I consent to photographing or videoing of my child during the Serbian School activities. The Serbian School St. Sava will take all steps to ensure these images are used solely for the purposes they are intended, preserving memories and promotion of the school. If you become aware that these images are being used inappropriately you should inform the CSO St. Sava immediately. In case of any damage to property belonging to CSO St. Sava by my child, I accept full responsibility for the cost of replacement/repair of that property.
