Folklore

Serbian traditional dance plays an important role in preserving our culture and identity tradition far away from the homeland. Through centuries it has been one of the strongest links built between generations to this day. Folklore dance is a unique and enjoyable component in creating a sense of belonging to a community, Orthodox cultural heritage and our nation with rich history and tradition.

Serbian Folklore Dance Group “Svetosavlje”, as a part of the CSC “Sveti Sava” in London, Ontario, has a long-lasting history for over 25 years. Throughout the years, our dancers had numerous opportunities to perform and show their talent at various folklore festivals along many other folklore groups from across Canada and United States, proudly representing the London Serbian community.

Folklore dance, as part of tradition and form of recreation, plays an important role in the development of children and youth among everybody else. In addition, we would like to highlight a few additional benefits of engaging in folklore dance:

Creation of own cultural identity 
Development of creativity, imagination, social connections, and social integration
Strengthening motor skills, coordination, endurance, center for balance and musicality through games, songs and dances, especially in younger population 
Improving the ability to work in larger groups (team building).

We perform, travel, build friendships and create lasting memories.

We are happy our group continuously grows and attracts more youngsters. Currently there are three groups of dancers, ages ranging from preschoolers to university graduates. Today in the group, we have our former dancers bringing their children to practices, which is a proof that our tradition lives and persists in this world of differences.

Participation Agreement Waiver

I give my permission for my son/daughter to participate in the Folklore Groupe “Svetosavlje” programs and performances. I am aware that there are risks associated with participation in the Folklore Group including the risk of injury, and I consent to my child’s participation in spite of such risks. I acknowledge that I will not seek to have Folklore Group “Svetosavlje” and CSO “Sv. Sava” or its instructors and volunteers held liable in the event that any accident, injury, loss of property or any other circumstance or incident occurs during or as a result of my son’s/daughter’s participation in this program. This release of liability includes accident, injury, loss, or damages to the student, as well as, to other individuals or property which may result from the student’s participation in this program. I hereby release and agree to hold harmless Folklore Group “Svetosavlje” and CSO “Sv. Sava”, its board members, officials, volunteers and employees, from any claims arising out of my son’s/daughter’s participation in this program. I have read and understand and accept all of the statements above and accept full responsibility as described. I understand that my child’s participation in the activity is a privilege, and that rules of acceptable behavior apply. I consent to photographing or videoing of my child during the Folklorе Group activities. The Folklore Group "Svetosavlje" will take all steps to ensure these images are used solely for the purposes they are intended, preserving memories and promotion of the Folklore Group. If you become aware that these images are being used inappropriately you should inform the Folkore Group immediately. In case of any damage to property belonging to the Folkore Group "Svetosavlje" or St. Sava Church by my child, I accept full responsibility for the cost of replacement/repair of that property.
